Bring the Magic Home! Disneyland’s Mint Julep

Since we can’t go to Disneyland right now, we are looking for ways to Bring the Magic Home! One way we can do this is right in our own kitchens. Below is a recipe for the famous Mint Julep served at the Mint Julep bar in Disneyland. And good news…this is a Family Friendly recipe, so feel free to enjoy with your kids!

(Of course, if you do want to make an Adult Only version, that would be perfectly fine!)

So put on some Disney tunes and mix this baby up! Cheers!

Thinking of You: A Message from our President

A message from our President, Rick Howard

As we press forward in the midst of the Corona Virus Pandemic, the phrase “we’re all in this together” could never be more true. In Florida, we’re under a stay at home order as are many of our agents who work in different parts of the US. But it’s not a Florida problem, localized like a hurricane or other natural disaster, it’s not a New York or New Jersey problem, it’s not even just a US problem, it’s a world problem. This is a shared experience the world over. The world will never be the same after this, it’s already affecting so many areas of life.

At Must Love Travel we’re grateful for our travel advisors who are home-based and able to continue to help their clients manage the plans they had for this year as well as dream ahead with their clients for the adventures to come.

I’m also very grateful to our travel suppliers for the exceptional job they’ve done through the most difficult of times. From the cruise industry to our all-inclusive partners and our Theme Park friends at Disney and Universal. They have been overwhelmed with cancellations and rescheduling requests all the while losing revenue as their ships and resort rooms sit vacantly. We have been working closely with our supplier representatives who have been incredibly supportive of travel advisors and the traveling public. And we will gladly continue to support them long after this pandemic retreats.

Thank you to everyone for the sacrifices you’re making right now so, one day soon, we can all return to something closer to what our lives once were. This event is not something we’ll soon forget but one day we will again desire to travel and wander the earth. Here’s looking to better days ahead!

RIDES at Universal Orlando Resort

I love the Universal Orlando Resort. I love that it is so small and easy to get around. I love the On-Site Hotels. I love the Wizarding World of Harry Potter. But if there is one thing that really sets Universal ahead of the other popular Orlando destinations (cough, Disney….) it’s THE RIDES.

Universal Orlando Resort has some of the BEST rides I’ve ever experienced. And not just the big, fun roller coasters – although they have those, too. But their immersive ride experiences includes some top technology that is really the first of its kind.

All of the 3-D/4-D Thrill Rides that top my list of Best-Rides-Ever live at the Universal Orlando Resort:

  • Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey (“the Castle Ride”)
  • Harry Potter and the Escape from Gringotts
  • Amazing Adventures of Spider-Man
  • Transformers: The Ride 3-D

Universal Orlando Resort is also home to three of my favorite Roller Coasters:

  • Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit
  • Revenge of the Mummy
  • The Incredible Hulk Coaster

Stone Harbor Lounge at Disney’s Beach Club Resort

Do you want to know the secret to my heart? Tell me I’m about to stay in a Club Level room at Disney’s Beach Club Resort! We just enjoyed our second stay, and it was as amazing as ever.

The fun begins when you arrive, as you are escorted upstairs for your private checkin on the 5th floor. You’ll be offered a refreshment…I highly recommend the specialty cocktail, which is usually some sort of bellini. Of course, you can opt for a glass of sparkling wine, or a beer…just let them know what you prefer. After you are checked in, you’ll be given a tour of the Club Lounge.

The Club Lounge is open from 7am – 10pm daily, and it does close for about 1/2 hour in the late morning so they can clean.

In the morning, you’ll be treated to an amazing continental breakfast. I like to think of this as “Continental Breakfast PLUS” because on top of the usual offerings of cereal, pastries, bagels and toast….you’ll also be offered hot oatmeal or grits, a beautiful smoked salmon or meat platter, hard boiled eggs, fruit, yogurt, homemade granola…just to name a few. The coffee and tea selection is top-shelf, including a cappuccino maker.

Around 11:30am the snacks come out – with a selection of housemade chips and dip, veggies and hummus, yogurt covered dark cherries, candies, gummy bears, fruit.

In the early evening, the Club really comes alive with hot hour’derves! You could absolutely make a meal from these offerings. Also this is the only time during the day that there is a Club cast member available to pour wine and beer.

Speaking of which – I haven’t mentioned my favorite part – even though wine and beer is only served in the evening – you can request it at any time!! Just grab one of the cast members, there are always plenty of them keeping the Lounge in perfect condition.  Just ask for that class of wine and they will bring it out to you!

And the day ends with my favorite – dessert! Lots of tasty little bites, including rice crispy treats, cookies, cakes, cupcakes…it’s a great selection! They also put a selection of Cordials and Liquors out with the coffee.

The other amazing benefit of being a Club Level guest is the personal concierge available to you. All day long, there are special cast members available in the lounge to assist with absolutely anything you need – private car service, dining reservations, fastpasses, special occasions and celebrations, park details…you name it, they can help!

I am often asked if the Club Level rooms are worth the extra cost. My answer is, that depends…if you are thinking you are going to eat and drink the value of the room…I highly doubt that is possible, unless you have 4 teenage boys in your room, and eat 3 meals a day in the lounge. I think the value of the Club Level rooms come in the form of the incredible service offered by the staff. If you need anything at all during your stay, you simply stop at the Concierge desk, or email/text a cast member, and they are on it. Having the flexibility to stop in for a glass of wine, or a snack, or ask about a dining reservation or help with fastpasses…they are just incredible!

Ask your Must Love Travel Planner for more information! Club Level is available at ALL Disney Deluxe Resorts.

Quiet Spots at Walt Disney World Resort

Walt Disney World is fun, fast and exciting! But sometimes you just need a few minutes to sit quietly, unwind, relax and catch your breath. Here are a few spots you’ll find throughout the Walt Disney World Resort to give you those few precious moments of peace and quiet.

Magic Kingdom

Tom Sawyer Island
Featuring trails, playgrounds, picnic areas and shady benches you can get to via boat from Frontierland. It’s the perfect place for a stroller nap, quiet walk or just to get away from the bustle of the Magic Kingdom.

Hidden Cove on Main Street USA
Sounds crazy, since Main Street is always super crowded. But if you are walking down the street, about halfway down on the right, there is a tiny little alley just after Uptown Jewelers, you will find a quiet little nook.

Epcot

All of my suggestions for Epcot are in the World Showcase.

Canada
Victoria Gardens features a totally charming walkway of gorgeous rolling hills, waterways and flowers. Look for a nearby bench or just take a slow walk with a stroller and enjoy the relative quiet.

Japan
As you enter the pavilion, look to your left. There is a beautiful koi pond, and just behind it there are stairs to a quiet spot to sit and eat.

Future World entrance to World Showcase (Showcase Plaza)
Keep walking straight (between Port of Entry and Disney Traders) and you’ll find a lot of open space with a beautiful view of the World Showcase Lagoon.

Animal Kingdom

Wildlife Express Train
This is a perfect way to rest and cool off with kids while still taking in some of the sights at the park. You’ll see behind-the-scenes in Harambe, Africa, while the kids snooze.

Flame Tree BBQ
Go through the restaurant to the outdoor seating. It is pretty secluded, and never as busy as inside.

Hollywood Studios

Voyage of the Little Mermaid
Hollywood Studios is filled with shows. Most shows are outdoors, but the Voyage of the Little Mermaid is an indoor, air conditioned theater that is great to relax and cool down.

Resort Hotels

This is my favorite way to take a break!

If you are in Magic Kindom, hop on the Monorail and stop at Disney’s Grand Floridian. Check out the lobby, grab a drink at the Enchanted Rose, and listen to the jazz band or grand piano player in the last afternoon and evenings.

If you are in Epcot or Hollywood Studios, walk or take the boat to Disney’s Boardwalk Inn. Tons of shopping and dining, and far less crowded than the parks!

If you are in Animal Kingdom, take the bus to Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge. Enjoy the stunning lobby, grab a drink at Victoria Falls, or go out onto the lookout and check out the animals.
