5 Caribbean Flowers That Brighten Any Room

Courtesy of Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines

The islands of the Caribbean brim with natural beauty, from crystal blue waters and pristine beaches to striking flora and fauna. With bright colors to match the vibrant culture and art, local flowers across the region often represent deeper meanings and messages. And as you’re thinking about how you’re going to show your love and appreciation to friends and family this year, consider some of the Caribbean beauties you may be able to find nearby.

With such unique flower species down in the Caribbean that have gained popularity around the world, there’s a variety to choose from that are sure to stand out. From the bright cattleya orchid to the famous dahlia, you can’t go wrong.

We picked some of the most stunning blooms you may want to look for at your local shop, many of which you can spot while on a Caribbean cruise with Royal Caribbean.

Plumeria, Barbados

One of the many vibrant blooms you’ll find in Barbados is the plumeria. Native to Central America, this flower can now be found in tropical climates—like in the southern Caribbean—during their bloom from spring to early fall. You may recognize the plumeria from your last Hawaiian luau—they are probably most famous for their use in making Hawaiian leis.

However, when you visit our new homeport of Barbados, you’ll find them scattered across the island—they love the heat. The plumeria’s fragrance is strongest at night since it uses its smell to attract moths for pollination. Don’t worry, they smell great during the day too, so a gift of plumerias will still fill a home with a sweet fragrance.

Rose, St. Lucia

The rose is one of St. Lucia’s national flowers, having won the national flower competition back in 1985. Long before it reportedly bloomed in the western part of the world, the rose is said to have first sprouted in Asia nearly 35 million years ago. It was 5,000 years ago when people first began cultivating the flower in their own gardens in China, and they have since become a staple we all see in poetry, religion, art, music, perfume and décor.

Greek and Roman mythology turned the rose into a symbol of love after Aphrodite, the goddess of love, cried over the death of her romantic partner Adonis. The rose comes in shades of red, pink, white, yellow, purple and even orange, each one holding a different meaning. You’ll be hard-pressed to find an arrangement without at least one rose.

Hibiscus, The Bahamas

You’ll spot hibiscus growing all over—quite possibly even during your visit to Perfect Day at CocoCay. Found to thrive in warmer climates, this flower features five large, oval-shaped petals with light green leaves that can often appear in many other colors, like red, yellow, white, pink and purple, which hold different meanings similar to the rose. For example, purple symbolizes freedom.

In the Victorian Era, the hibiscus often served as a symbol of delicate beauty. Representing so many sweet and even powerful messages, the bloom makes a beautiful choice to show someone you care.

Dahlia, Mexico

Mexico’s national flower is both practical and impressive. Native to Central America, the Aztecs referred to the perennial plant as acocoxóchitl or “flower of hollow stems,” which they used to transport water. It certainly didn’t take long for the Spanish to notice the dahlia with its large and colorful two-toned blooms and great height—they can range from 1 to 5 feet tall.

The New World beauty was brought back to Madrid and quickly gained popularity from there. Today, the vibrant flower represents elegance, creativity and dignity.

Cattleya orchid, Costa Rica

This orchid variety grows throughout Central and South America and is abundant in Costa Rica—which you will now be able to visit from our new homeport of Barbados. You may recognize it from the corsage you wore to your high school prom, but they’re also common in bouquets and planted in pots since they can grow up to 2 feet tall.

These blooms are slow growers, taking four to seven years to mature from a seed. And since they’re slow to grow, they’re also (extremely) slow to wither—with regular maintenance and good care, a planted orchid can live up to 100 years. If you really want to show your “undying” appreciation, maybe forgo the more traditional flower arrangement and take a chance on the potted cattleya orchid.

Though brightening up your home and others’ with these blooms is a great temporary fix, we can’t wait to brighten up your days on a Caribbean cruise.

Top 5 Reasons People Love Cruising

Cruising is one of the best ways to vacation! In fact, travelers who cruise tend to fall in love with cruising, oftentimes with a particular cruise line and will prefer a cruise as a means to visit various destinations throughout the world versus a standard land vacation. There are countless reasons why travelers love to cruise, so let’s narrow it down to the top 5 reasons people love to cruise!

The Number 1 reason travelers love to cruise is the convenience! You can visit multiple islands in the Caribbean, or multiple countries and cities throughout Europe, while your hotel travels along with you! Imagine visiting 3 different European countries, 5 different Caribbean islands, or even taking a cruise around the world and only having to unpack your suitcase one time! Cruising is the most popular way to visit Alaska, as you can see so much beauty not only in the different ports of call but also view beautiful scenery while you are sailing. River Cruising has become one of the most popular ways to experience multiple countries throughout Europe, especially smaller villages not accessible by the larger ships.

The Number 2 reason travelers love to cruise is the value! Included with your cruise fare are all of your meals onboard the ship, activities, entertainment, pools, waterslides, and pretty much everything you could need or want while on vacation. Many cruise lines offer booking bonuses such as free drink packages, free wifi, free gratuities, free excursions, and upgraded dining experiences. If you book your cruise at the right time, you won’t have to spend a dime while on the ship.

The Number 3 reason travelers love to cruise is the fun! Families especially love the larger “mega-ships” that really are more like floating cities. You can find activities for every age group, including some really innovative new experiences such as a full race-track at sea, surf simulators, virtual reality, laser tag, sports simulators, massive water slides and splash zones…the list goes on and on. From young children to teens to adults, there is something for everyone on board a cruise ship.

The Number 4 reason travelers love to cruise is the service! The pampering that is available on board a cruise ship is addictive! From skilled stewards who care for your stateroom, complete with evening turndown service, to the world-class spas and concierge lounges, there are many ways to relax and feel spoiled. Some cruise lines offer rotational dining, where your servers follow you each evening to a different restaurant, allowing them to learn your preferences and anticipate your every need. The exceptional service on cruise ships is one of the reasons travelers often become addicted to the experience and continue to cruise time and time again.

And the Number 5 reason travelers love to cruise and continue to cruise is the trust they have in their favorite cruise line! Consistent, reliable service is the reason travelers fall in love with certain cruise lines and will continue to sail with their favorites time and time again. Their expectations are constantly met, and often exceeded, with each cruise they take. As the cruise lines continue to build new ships, seasoned cruisers will continue to explore the world with their favorite cruise line.

Book your next cruise with Peace of Mind!

There is no doubt, COVID has impacted the travel industry in a major way. That’s probably an understatement – COVID has completely halted the travel industry. That does not mean the travel industry is gone forever! In fact, lots of destinations, resorts, and countries are starting to open back up and welcome travelers.

Over the last 5 months, I have witnessed how suppliers, resorts, destinations, airlines, and every other aspect of the travel industry have handled the crisis. And you might be surprised to learn that some of the best and hardest working in the business have been the Cruise Lines.

The cruising industry were some of the first to be affected by the COVID crisis. Undoubtedly, they’ve taken some of the hardest hits, and will most likely be the last to fully recover. Yet they have stayed strong, stayed in communication, and worked endlessly to put in place even stricter Health and Safety regulations than ever before. On top of all of this, cruise lines have also put out some incredibly generous and well thought out Peace of Mind booking policies.

Personally, as a Travel Advisor and avid traveler, I cannot wait to get back on a cruise ship!

If you love to cruise but are nervous to book a future cruise, you are not alone! This is why the cruise lines have gone to such extremes to make you feel comfortable. Take a look at the highlights of the major cruise line’s new booking policies, which allow you to book a cruise now, lock in low rates, and not lose sleep over it.

Remember to keep dreaming about travel! When you are ready to cruise again, we are ready to guide and support you through the process.

Evening Entertainment aboard the Celebrity Infinity

After a great day in port in Key West Florida our team then gathered back together aboard the Celebrity Infinity to participate in some education trainings that we hosted on the upper deck. We then enjoyed hanging out on this upper deck right as we got ready to sail away. We had an incredible view to take in a famous Key West sunset!

A group of us headed to the theater this evening to take in the entertainment. We loved all of the acts that the Celebrity infinity had! Every night was something new and exciting! there was a great variety of very talented performers.

After the show we made our way to the main dining room for dinner. We loved the meals we had here every night of our cruise. The menu always had a wide selection!

Once we finished our meal a group of us made our way the Constellations Lounge to enjoy Silent Disco! We heard our cruise direct announce before the show that silent disco was going to be going to be happening that evening and we all became very excited and intrigued! None of us had ever attended a silent disco. It was so much fun! You walk into a room of people dancing but it is completely quite! Everyone is wearing headphones listening to the music! Taking your headphones off and just taking in the sight of a room full of people dance to no music was hilarious! You have 3 different stations you could turn your headphones to. Everyone could pick the type of music they liked. We had a blast flipping through the stations together and sharing so many laughs.

Sailing Away on the Celebrity Infinity! – Cruise Video

Prior to my very first cruise on the Celebrity Infinity I had no idea just how exhilaration the feeling of sailing away on a cruise ship truly is! I knew it was going to be exciting but in reality it was so much more! I has no idea that this moment was going to take my breath away the way it did!

On our embarkation day for our Must Love Travel cruise myself and my co-workers spent the day boarding the ship, unpacking our staterooms and catching up with each other! As the sun was just beginning to set the time was drawing near for our ship to sail away and our cruise officially began! Our whole Must Love Travel team made our way to the upper deck to watch as we pulled out of port and literally sailed off into the sunset!

I will always remember the atmosphere that filled the air at this moment, it was such a joyful feeling! Everyone around was all smiles as everyones vacation was just beginning! There was this overwhelming feeling of excitement that filled the air. As our ship began to slowly move and make its way out of the port there was a great sense of adventure! I loved seeing the coastline filled with bystanders all cheering, waving and even ringing bells as they watched our ship sail away. Then the horns of the the ship filled the air as if to say bon voyage!

As I mentioned I knew this moment would be exciting but I had no idea just how thrilling it would be in the moment! The views of the beach and stretching coastline beside us and the open sea and setting sun in the distance were absolutely beautiful!

With our cruise officially underway our group made our way to one of the many onboard lounges to enjoy some cocktails and great conversation with all of our work friends. With our team working all over the country these times getting to all be together in person are always so special. During this time we got to say thank you to Our Chief Heart Officer, Bill Wingate who helped with the planning process with this wonderful cruise! Our team got together to give Bill a gift to show our appreciation.

Soon it was time for our dinner seating and we headed into one of the main dining rooms on the ship. This restaurant was gorgeous with two main levels to it! Once we sat down and got our menus, we had a wide array of delicious options to choose from for appetizers, entrees and desserts! Everyone really enjoyed their meals throughout the entire cruise!

Road Trip From Orlando to Fort Lauderdale to Board the Celebrity Infinity for my Very First Cruise!

This past November Must Love Travel took a company trip aboard the beautiful Celebrity Infinity! We had a wonderful time filled with new learning experiences and fellowship! For me this was my very first cruise EVER! I was filled with excitement and my experienced Must Love Travel Planner friends were with me every step of the way to show me the ropes and make me a cruising pro!

For me and a few of my fellow Must Love Travel team members our journey began in Orlando Florida! A group of us had flown into Orlando to spend a few days at Walt Disney World pre-cruise. We then woke up VERY early the day of our Celebrity cruise to rent a van and have a road trip down to Fort Lauderdale where we would board the ship! The road trip festivities began with packing the car with the luggage of 6 travel professionals! We packed it to the brim but got everything to fit just right!

We then hit the road! As someone who has vacationed to Florida for all of my life this was actually my first time venturing to south Florida! It was really cool to take in the sights along the way of a new part of my favorite state! We shared a TON of laughs along the way!

Once we arrived in Fort Lauderdale we turned in the rental car and caught the shuttle to the port right across the street. After checking in I had the moment I had been waiting for, boarding the ship for the first time! It was an incredible feeling to step aboard and take in the beauty of the Celebrity Infinity!

We made our way to the buffet to enjoy lunch and got to meet up with some of our other co-workers. They made the announcement that the staterooms were ready and I went up to check out my room!  It was a very nice and comfortable room and my favorite part as the lovely veranda were I enjoyed many beautiful views as we sailed.

Celebrity Infinity Stateroom Tour! – Cruise Ship Cabin Tour Video!

Back in November our Must Love Travel Group set sail on the beautiful Celebrity Infinity for a wonderful cruise filled with continued education, new experiences and great fellowship with our amazing team! We loved getting to stay aboard the Celebrity Infinity! I had so much fun exploring every part of this gorgeous ship! The ship’s décor and style is timeless and elegant yet full of contemporary flare! Many parts of the ships featured unique pieces of modern art.

This elegant yet modern décor could also be found inside the staterooms. These cabins had a very clean and feel with light wood tones and pops of red. I stayed in a verandah cabin which featured a massive balcony! I loved having a verandah room and being able to start each morning by stepping right outside to see what beautiful destination we were waking up in that day!

You can check out our full Celebrity Infinity Stateroom tour in our New YouTube Video:
